What is Pawtal?

Pawtal is a veterinary practice operating system that unifies EMR, scheduling, workforce, safety, culture, and training into a single, purpose-built workspace.

Overview

Pawtal is a veterinary practice operating system — one platform that replaces the 16+ disconnected tools a typical hospital juggles every day (PIMS, paper whiteboards, HRIS, LMS, OSHA binder, Slack, drug handbooks, SDS binder, etc.).

Pawtal can be adopted two ways:

  • Partner app alongside your existing EMR (Vetspire, ezyVet, Cornerstone). Pawtal adds the workforce, safety, compliance, learning, culture, checklists, and analytics layer. Your clinical engine stays where it is.
  • Full suite as your complete practice OS — from patient charts and treatment sheets to billing, scheduling, and every module.

How it works

Pawtal has three portals, all backed by a single tenant database:

  • Staff Portal — what clinical and support staff use every day. Dashboard, schedule, whiteboard, treatment sheets, patient chart, checklists, safety, culture, learning, career.
  • Management Portal — what managers use to run the hospital. Open shifts, coverage, performance, safety compliance, culture admin, reporting.
  • Admin Portal — what owners and implementers use to configure the hospital. Tenants, users, scheduler config, forms, chart templates, drug library, safety programs, feature flags, billing.

Under the hood: Next.js 14 App Router, Supabase (Postgres + auth + RLS), multi-tenant by row-level security, optional OpenAI-powered AiVA assistance, SendGrid + Twilio for notifications.

Tips

  • Pawtal is modular — your hospital may not have every feature enabled. Modules appear only when licensed and turned on by your admin.
  • The portal switcher in the top bar is only visible to users with more than one role.

FAQ

Do I need to replace my existing EMR?

No. Pawtal works as a partner app alongside Vetspire and others, or as your full practice OS.

Is my data isolated from other hospitals?

Yes. Each tenant (hospital or group) has a logically isolated database slice enforced at the row level.
